Chakras are spinning wheels of concentrated energy centers in the human body. These chakras bring the life force to our physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual levels and are responsible for the smooth functioning and growth of our life in all areas. There are seven main chakras located in our body starting from the base of the spine going upwards towards the crown of your head.

The first chakra is at the base of your spine- Root Chakra.

Before we know our Root Chakra, let’s find out what we need to ask ourselves first to find out about our Root Chakra.

  1. Do I feel safe in my body, home, and the environment?
  2. Do I have the courage and stamina to fulfill the purpose of my life?
  3. Do I live in fear or in peace?
  4. Do I feel secure in all areas of my life?
  5. Do I feel stable in all areas of my life?
  6. Do I worry about my materialistic needs to be met?
  7. Do I feel belonged?
  8. Do I trust life?

If your answer is mostly negative, chances are that you need to heal and balance your Root Chakra.

Let’s find out about our Root Chakra.

The official name of this chakra, Muladhara, comes from the words Mula, which means root, and Dhara, which means support.

So, this chakra’s role is to connect all of your energy with the Earth, which is called grounding.

When you think of your Root Chakra, think of your day to day survival here on earth. This energy center’s role is to give you everything you need to survive. For us in this modern age, that typically translates to financial and emotional security.

Here is a grounding meditation to practice for balancing your Root Chakra.

Sit comfortably on the floor with your spine straight in cross legs position and your hands on your knees.

Close your eyes and take three deep inhales and exhale.

Now take a moment to connect with your breath. Pay attention to your breath. No need to make any effort in breathing heavily. Just breathe normally.

Remain in this state for a couple of minutes.

Now inhale deeply and say the mantra “LAM” while you exhale. Repeat again for ten times.

Be in the moment of silence for a few minutes observing your natural breathing.

Now imagine a ball of white light illuminating white light on top of your head.

The white light starts to enter your head through the crown down to your neck and further down to your spine to reach the base of your spine.

As it reaches the base of your spine, the base of the spine starts to illuminate deep ruby red color.

The white light keeps pouring and as it keeps pouring, the red color becomes more and more deep and rich and pure. The red color is spinning at the base of your spine.

Now imagine that the base of the spine has started spreading red roots which are moving towards the ground.

The roots are red in color and it starts to enter the earth towards its center. It feels like you are rooted to the ground through these red roots like a tree.

Visualize, the white light pouring inside the root chakra making it stronger, and the roots going deeper and deeper towards the center of the earth.

As your roots reach the center of the earth, you start to feel more and more secure, stable, grounded, and safe.

Notice how you feel and remain in this energy for a while.

In your mind, feel that you are firmly rooted in the power of the earth. Feel that this connection is your foundation. You draw security and stability from this. All your needs are met and you are safe.

Remain in this feeling for as long as you want.

Before you open your eyes, feel grateful for this meditation for healing and balancing your root chakra.

Slowly open your eyes.
